President Trump praised the historic relationship and recalled his mother’s affection for the royals, even quipping that she had a “crush” on Charles — a remark that brought a smile from the king. The Trumps hosted a private tea for the visitors and later joined the couple for a garden party of more than 600 guests.
The state visit, timed for the 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence, is King Charles and Queen Camilla’s first trip to the U.S. since his accession in 2022 upon the death of his mother, Queen Elizabeth. Planned events include an address to Congress and a state dinner; the itinerary continues to New York, Virginia and then Bermuda. A meeting with Prince Harry is not expected during the visit.
