On April 28 a formal military review with a 21-gun salute preceded a private exchange of gifts. King Charles was scheduled to address Congress—a rare occurrence for a British monarch—and the visit concluded that evening with a state dinner where speeches were expected.

New York, Virginia and onward to Bermuda

The royals traveled to New York to pay respects at 9/11 sites; Charles planned to visit a community urban-farming initiative while Camilla marked Winnie-the-Pooh’s 100th for her charity. The trip included Arlington National Cemetery, Appalachian engagements and a Virginia block party before a royal visit to Bermuda May 1–2.
