Speaking to PEOPLE on the red carpet at the Tiffany & Co. Blue Book Gala in New York on April 16, 2026, Seyfried recalled meeting Miranda for the project and telling him, in essence, she was in no matter what. Miranda then explained the concept: it’s an a cappella musical, and Seyfried—who calls herself a born singer—was thrilled to be part of it.

What Octet is about

Octet is a film adaptation of a musical that explores dependency in the digital age. Seyfried will play Jessica, a character who first reveals being canceled in a support group. The official synopsis describes eight internet-obsessed people who meet in a church basement and lock their phones in a box, singing about connection, redemption and being present.
